Ruth Ann Hughes Hoffman presented an inspiring program, “Nanny’s Quilt” at the New Market Area Library on Sunday. Her great grandmother’s one hundred year old Friendship quilt that was on display was magnificent! Ruth talked about her search to find out who the people whose signatures are on the quilt were. She mentioned resources in the research room at the Shenandoah County Library, online resources such as Ancestry.com, and more. Ruth shared care tips for quilts. Ruth found Pam Pampe, a quilt expert in Winchester, to do some repair work on Granny’s quilt. Takeaways on quilt care: do not store quilts in plastic tubs or cedar chests. Hang them to display, or roll them with a cotton sheet instead of folding them (or at least fold in a different way each time.) The next program at the New Market Area Library will be held on Sunday, April 6, at 2 pm. “Joseph Salyards (1808 – 1885): the Eternal Sage of Shenandoah” will be presented by E. K. Kappenberger.
