We’ve all heard the saying, “All work and no play makes Randy a dull boy” — or at least, that’s how I’ve always heard it. We’ve been writing our column for quite some time now, typically covering topics such as home improvement projects, repairs, maintenance, and the like. Sometimes it feels like we must be constantly busy, yet we never stop to enjoy the fruits of our busyness. This month, let’s take a break. I’m not going to tell you to tackle your spring To-do list, or warn you if you wait too long, you’re going to miss the window to plant certain crops. I want you to simply embrace the arrival of spring. Slow down and notice the ephemerals growing around us. Take a moment to appreciate the return of birdsong that went quiet during the winter. Enjoy the feeling of the sun warming your back as you walk in the woods to birdwatch or indulge in tree identification. I highly suggest Merlin and PlantNet.
If you’re metaphorically ready to frolic in a meadow but realize that your current outdoor leisure gear isn’t up to snuff, we’re here to help. Instead of turning to the internet to supply what you need, we are ready for spring so you can walk out the door fully equipped to enjoy spring your way.
If the smell of a charcoal grill gets your blood pumping, we offer a wide range of charcoal, wood pellets, and chips to add a little something special. I challenge you to see if one can make a hotdog truly gourmet. Transform a simple chicken breast into a culinary cabaret (that’s for those who grew up with Disney’s Beauty and The Beast) with our selection of special spice rubs and sauces. Additionally, we’ve just introduced pop-up shade canopies to create a comfortable shady spot wherever you desire.
There are those of us who want to enjoy the great outdoors, but don’t feel the love being reciprocated. We’re here to help you, too. If your complexion is on the more burny side, we have new portable pop-up shade canopies to help keep protected no matter where you go. If bugs are the bane of your existence, we have both short and long-term approaches to keeping them away from you.
And of course, we’ve got you covered with essentials like pocketknives, grills, propane exchanges, and more!
We’re fortunate to reside in a part of Virginia where the night sky hasn’t been completely obscured by light pollution. Grab a few blankets and head outside to marvel at the beauty of the sky. Make it a point to spend time with those important to you. Explore the world around you and teach your children and grandchildren to do the same. Slow. Down.
If you’re not sure how to forego busyness and enjoy the gifts that spring has for us, just ask us for guidance. Remember, at Randy’s Hardware, we don’t mind your questions. We don’t mind them at all!
