We are Sam and Kim Wilkins and we are retired full time RVers in search of 70 degree weather. Our home is now a 42-foot fifth wheel.
We sold our home and most of our belongings in order to see what this great United States has to offer by way of beautiful scenery. Along the way we have met some of the nicest people.
We have now been in Florida for half of our winter stay, where is the time going and why is it going so quickly? At this stage of my lifetime seems to slip through my fingers and we are constantly reminded to embrace every moment.
We were visited by a couple we first met at the campground in Broadway, Shenandoah/Harrisonburg KOA, and they also winter here in a town about two hours away. Charlie and Cheryl Stein workcamp during the summer months and are snowbirds like us. What fun we had catching up.
It has been fascinating to watch the International Space Station make so many trips across the sky knowing there are human beings inhabiting it going thousands of miles an hour. One evening we saw a line of lights and were told it was SpaceX satellites. The weather has allowed us to enjoy sitting outside in the evenings to enjoy such sites and other campers’ company.
The campground threw a Valentine’s Day event where there were lots of sweets, we enjoyed a few dances and Sam and I participated in a Newlywed type game, even though we haven’t been newlyweds for over 40 years. We had so much fun and laughter and also realized we knew each other pretty well.
We received news of the loss of a family friend we’ve known since our school days, Rebecca See Strawderman. This sweet woman always had a smile and laughter with every greeting. Our mothers were good friends in the 70’s. Our hearts are heavy, and our thoughts and prayers are still with her husband, James, and their daughters and grandchildren along with the rest of her family. This was yet another reminder that tomorrow is never promised and we should all cherish every moment.
This weekend has been filled with visiting friends that we met a few years ago. For one of the couples, it was their very first camping trip in their camper and they pulled in during a downpour. We offered a dry spot to wait out the storm and became fast friends. This connection of camping has brought so many friends, perhaps lifelong friends, to our lives and has enriched us greatly.
Until next time we hope all of our friends and family back hope and safe and well, blessings to you all.
Kim
