Happy June! Things are growing, bees are humming, and we’re all looking forward to beach vacations. The winter was mild and many of my self-seeding plants are peppering the flower beds. I can’t really tell fledgling plants from weeds right now, so there’s my excuse for not weeding! Right now, I have yellow yarrow, lavender, snapdragons, and columbine blooming. This is also the first year my peonies have bloomed. When Kim and Todd Glenn gave me the plant starts, I had little hope that those dry looking little roots would produce anything. But last year they grew about a foot, and this spring, they have spread out and are blooming. Ah, the miracle of new life from old.
I’d also like to give a shout out to Arlene Reid and Glenhaven Greenhouse for providing us with hearty, fast-growing plants. I don’t have a green thumb, but her plants always have the strong start they need to stand up to my bungling attempts at gardening.
