Happy December! I hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving. We had a house full of our kiddos, their spouses, and our two grandchildren. We enjoyed a great meal, and all I had to do was bake a turkey and buy some scrumptious rolls from our J. Frank Hillyard cafeteria staff. I’m blessed to have children who cook!
On Friday, we went to see the new Disney movie, Wish, with some of the family. What a fun movie! Saturday morning, we bundled up and went to the Christmas tree farm in Singers Glen. After some uphill climbs, we chose a white pine named Eleanor to be our resident tree this holiday season.
Last month I mentioned the National Novel Writing challenge of writing 1,667 words a day to have a 50,000 word first draft of a novel by the end of November. I actually finished the challenge five days early! Now for multiple edits and rewrites.
This month marks the fifth birthday of The Chimney Rock Chronicle. How time flies! I remember we printed 500 copies of our December 2018 issue and I was afraid we couldn’t give them all away. Now, we go through 2000 copies per month quite quickly. Thank you for reading our stories and for all of your encouragement over the past half decade. A big thank you also to our sponsors – folks who took a chance on a fledgling newspaper. I know that printed newspapers are falling out of fashion, but we hope to continue to bring you a small town newspaper for years to come.
A Merry Christmas to you and your family from our CRC family! We’re looking forward to sharing many more stories with you in 2024!
