We are Sam and Kim Wilkins and we are retired full time RVers in search of 70 degree weather. Our home is now a 42-foot fifth wheel.
We sold our home and most of our belongings in order to see what this great United States has to offer by way of beautiful scenery. Along the way we have met some of the nicest people.
We had the pleasure of visiting a “pumpkin patch” with our granddaughter, Penelope. She took a ride on the carousel and selected the same horse our other granddaughter, Deandra, selected almost 20 years ago. We’ve been blessed with family and memories.
Some friends from upstate New York stopped by for a visit on their way to Florida and we had the best time showing them around the area. George & Audrey wanted to see where we spent our Spring and Fall so, we took them on a long drive. They were so impressed with the views and the leaves were still so beautiful. They’d heard about Lost River and were curious to see this natural wonder, so we took that hike. The dry summer revealed the perfect view of where the river disappears. I hadn’t seen it for over 40 years. Still very amazing.
My passion for Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Ministry is still strong so helping with the Broadway Baptist Church packing party was such a pleasure. Seeing kids, young and old, prepare these Gospel Opportunities for children in other countries warms my heart. What fun we had.
My friend Amy and I decided to be brave and hike up to Cranny Crow, it’s a trail in Lost River State Park. I hiked it once in the 70s with my parents and family so why not try it again. It’s two miles up, a piece of cake. Right? There were naysayers which gave us a challenge, but we were determined. Halfway up was a nice resting place and gave us that boost we needed. Oh my, the reward at the top. Amy raised her arms in victory. We sat and took in the majestic views for a while before coming back down.
My friend, Joyce, invited me and two other friends to take a ride on the Potomac Eagle in Romney, WV. I’d heard about it and was so excited to go. Our ride took us up the trough and we got to see so many eagles, young and old, following the Potomac River. What a relaxing adventure it was.
We will be celebrating Thanksgiving this week and hope you all have enjoyed lots of food and family as well. We are so very blessed.
The realization this will be my last article before leaving for Florida is both sad and exciting. We will miss our home state but look forward to reconnecting with our Snowbird family and enjoying some warm weather.
Blessings to each and every one of you!
Kim
