The Shenandoah River and local lakes continued to be productive as spring comes to a close and summer settles in. By Memorial Day weekend fish were coming out of a spawn/post spawn period and into a summer pattern.
Anglers in June can expect bass transitioning into a summer pattern in our area waters. Early morning and late afternoon and evening hours will be the preferred times to have a line in the water. Bass will move up into the shallows during the low light times of the day to feed.
I would recommend starting with a top water presentation early and late in the day. Buzz baits, poppers, and I see a lot of anglers throwing the popper whopper. If grass is present, fish a weedless frog across the top. Another good lure for the shallows is the square billed crankbait or shallow diving crankbaits. Bass will react as they bounce off rocks and wood cover.
Another good choice during the summer months is the spinnerbait, it can be fished from top to bottom. Hold your rod tip a little higher with a faster retrieve for surface action, or let it sink with a slower retrieve for the middle of the water column. Stop it briefly over wood or rocks to get a fluting action that might trigger a strike.
Sweet summertime is here and we couldn’t be happier. Water temperatures are on the rise and fish are biting, so grab a handful of your favorite lures and get out there and just go fishing. Be safe, wear that life jacket, and take a kid fishing.
The Bible tells us that Jesus prayed often and alone. As followers of Jesus, prayer should be the number one priority of our walk. It’s that connection between us and God. God desires nothing more than Christians coming to him in prayer. So, take time every day to be in God’s word and prayer. Pray for the church, pray for those that don’t know Jesus, and pray for yourself. Set time alone daily to spend time with God.
No matter how confusing life can be at times, we don’t have to face it alone. The Spirit and the Son are praying for you today. Our Lord’s encouragement to us is clear, always pray and don’t give up.
Philippians 4:6 – “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.”
God Bless you all!
