As expected, August was hot, humid and water conditions were low, clear, and warm. Most anglers take a break during the month of August due to these conditions, but the report I get and with my time on the water there were still a lot of anglers on the water during August.
As we roll into September fishing should pick up. Cooler days and night time temperatures will begin to drop the water temperatures and this will favor the fish. I believe September is the beginning of that transition from summer patterns to a fall pattern where bass will be more aggressive to your reaction lures, such as spinnerbaits or chatter baits with a trailer. This will most likely take place toward the end of the month. So, continue to fish the first part of September like you did in August. Fish moving water and along grass lines. Topwater lures will work the entire month.
As we get towards the mid to end of the month, shorter days and lower water temperatures will increase bass feeding patterns. Focus on shallow water with topwater lures, spinnerbaits, chatter baits and square billed crankbaits. Bass will be feeding preparing for the colder months ahead. I believe one of the best fall lures is the square billed crankbaits. It bounces off rocks and laydowns very well, which triggers bass to strike it. If the reaction bite isn’t on, slow down with a bottom presentation such as a jig and pig combination. Work this lure through rocks and wood, you should put a few more bass in the boat with a jig. Have a good and safe September on the water.
God loves each and every one of us, but there’s one problem. Sin separates us from God! But God made a way for us to be reconciled back to him. His one and only son, Jesus, died on a cross, his blood was shed for you and for all people. He was put in a tomb and on the third day God raised him from the dead. If you don’t know Jesus as the Lord and Savior of your life, I would like to encourage you to think about this. Confess your sins before him, invite Jesus into your heart and become a member of God’s great family.
