February is the month of love, and the folks at J. Frank Hillyard Middle School are jumping on the bandwagon! The theme for this year’s Hawks Highlight Night is “For the Love Of…” Each teacher is filling in the blank with their own items they would like to showcase. For example: For the Love of Music, come waltz with the JFH music department as they celebrate this year’s musical, Anastasia. For the Love of Science, enjoy student projects that run on solar power and order a personal pizza from the STEM class. If you love books, stop by Mr. O’baugh’s class to see student Literature Presentations. Show your love for art by making magic circles, snowflakes, bookmarks, and more. Learn Spanish, workout, play chess, experience the Roaring 20s and much, much more! You can even learn about the history of our area from its prehistoric native beginnings to European settlements.

And of course there’s food! Dinner will be available from 5:30 – 6:45 in the cafeteria. Enjoy a hotdog, chips, drink, apple, and a cookie for just $3.00! Dinner tickets will be available outside the cafeteria.
Folks are also encouraged to stop by the Scholastic Book Fair in the library. Parents can also visit the JFH Counseling Information Table for information on Powerschool, attendance, scheduling, food backpack programs, student electives, therapy dogs, Valley Scholars and more.
Hawks Highlight nights have always been a great way for parents and our community to see what goes on at the school. Last year over 570 people attended the event. Event coordinator, Karla Vangilder Dick, says that many local businesses have contributed to the project including Mr. J’s Bagels & Deli, Costco, Pilgrims, Domino’s, Dairy Queen in Harmony Square, and Trumbo Electric.
So For the Love of Fun, don’t miss Hawks Hangout February 13 from 5:30 – 7:30 at J. Frank Hillyard Middle School! This is a family event, so students, bring your parents!
