Every November scouts all over the USA participate in the Scouting for Food Drive. Most units donate their collections to a regional Food Bank. But Cub Scouts from Pack 1, Boy Scouts from Troop 1 and Boy Scouts from Troop 124 chose every year to keep their collections local to donate to various Food Pantries in Northern Rockingham County. On November 2nd and November 9th, these 3 units collected on these two Saturdays over 2500 pounds of food at the Walmart and Food Lion in Timberville, VA. The scouts delivered their donations collected from the community to 4 different food pantries this year. Lacey Spring Food Pantry at Grace Mennonite Fellowship Church, Cornerstone Church and Ministries Food Pantry in Broadway, Broadway Baptist Church Food Pantry, and Broadway Presbyterian Church Food Pantry received the food to help with their Thanksgiving baskets, families in need and stock their food pantries for the holidays. Community Service is a big part of a scout’s life and these 33 scouts, and 23 adults made an impact in numerous lives, thank you for your care and time.
