The long vacant hair salon in Fulks Run recently got a new lease on life!
When the salon closed, if people wanted a haircut, they had to drive to Broadway, or even Harrisonburg.
Now, Fulks Run has a hair salon again! The 2nd new business to arrive in town this year!
Owner Dina DeGrande-Fancher, originally from New Jersey, moved to Criders about 3 years ago. She and her husband both retired from law enforcement in NJ, and Dina wanted to get back to her first love – cutting and styling hair.
She had gone to cosmetology school and worked in a commercial salon for several years. Wanting more benefits than that career could give, at the urging of her husband, she applied to the police department and was accepted. After her 25 years in the Department of Corrections, Dina and her husband retired and moved down here. They have 2 grown sons – one in the Marines, and one in Air Force.
Wanting to get back into a salon, she transferred her license to Virginia and came across the empty salon building in Fulks Run. A little detective work led her to owner Jeremy Stroop, who was willing to lease it to her, and the rest is history. Having worked for a commercial salon in a shopping mall, being her own boss was something Dina wanted. Totally refurbished, The Hair Nook opened recently, and the little shop is very busy.
