Opened in 2020, The Buttercup is as much a person as “she” is a shop. Her founder, Cristi Coryell moved back to New Market from Napa Valley, California, and realized that there was a serious need for a place “to be brave, and to try new things” and from that call, The Buttercup was born. Cristi then began the hunt to find the “where” for the calling and found that her childhood hair salon was available for purchase. “It was almost like God said ‘here’s a little package’… There were no stumbling blocks; we’re meant to be a part of this community.”
And part of the community they are; The Buttercup offers the creations of local artisans from all over the valley and Virginia as a whole. Small makers now have an outlet to share their creations in both New Market and Woodstock. The Buttercup is ever-changing in her product selection as well. Only 6 of any outfit are ordered at a time and once they are gone, then it’s time for something new! Cristi also hosts Date @ 8 live demos for clothes on The Buttercup Facebook page.
“I am very grateful as a small business owner in this season of our country with everything going on that we have continued to be relevant, supported, and loved-on by this community” – Cristi Coryell
