We are Sam and Kim Wilkins, and we are retired full time RVers in search of 70-degree weather. Our home is now a 42-foot fifth wheel.
We sold our home and most of our belongings in order to see what this great United States has to offer by way of beautiful scenery. Along the way we have met some of the nicest people.
We were so very delighted to be visited by our granddaughter, Deandra, and her boyfriend, AJ, all the way from Huntington Beach CA! We grilled them some steak and caught up on all the latest. Being grandparents is such a blessing and when the grandkids want to visit you it is such a warm and loving feeling
Just a few days later we began our trip to Alaska. In celebration of my 65th birthday this year we booked a cruise with two other couples, Alan & Barbara Robbins and Ray & Debbie Bennet. All of us ladies have the same birth year. We flew into Fairbanks and stayed at an Airbnb for a couple of nights resting up from the jet lag and time zone change of gaining four hours. We took the river walk downtown and toured the local museum. From there we started the land tour staying at the Wilderness Lodge. The first excursion we enjoyed was a riverboat ride down the Chena River and visiting a fish camp a seeing how the local Athabaskan people lived. Our next stop was Denali Wilderness Lodge, and the views were amazing. A bus took us on a tour where we saw the tundra and so much of the countryside. Then our third stop on our land tour was McKinley Lodge where we saw part of the Mt. McKinley (aka Denali) and experienced the Northern Lights! When we left there, we took a train ride to Whittier which took 5 hours all the while seeing so much scenery including a moose. We got on the ship there. We had three ports of call, Icey Straights, Juneau and Ketchikan. The ship took a sail through Glacier National Park as well. Oh my, the sights we were able to see. There is so much to tell you and so many pictures to show you and I wish I could show you everything, but some will have to wait till next month. I will be able to go into more detail about each stop as well.
For now, I want you to know how very blessed we feel to experience all the beauty God has made and for giving us the opportunity to witness it!
Blessings till next time.
Kim
