The program for the November 14 VARE meeting today featured Frank Will speaking about Mount Crawford Creamery. His great-grandfather bought the farm (known as the Will Brothers Farm) in December, 2024, and moved there and began farming in 1925. Frank’s dad and uncle bought the farm in 1952. They added a dairy to the farm and began selling milk to Shenandoah’s Pride. In 1977, they built a new dairy barn which is still used. After Shenandoah’s Pride was sold in 2000, and milk prices dropped almost half in 2008, Frank and his brother Kenny started exploring doing their own business. They started their own creamery in 2013. They process 500 pounds of milk daily, and have a retail store near the farm. They also sell milk products to local grocery stores, coffee shops, and other locations. Will talked about their vat pasteurization process; they do not homogenize their milk. VARE treasurer Susan Schuckman, who works part-time at Mt Crawford Creamery, introduced Mr. Will. VARE members had many questions!
