Spectre
Hues and colors spin about
Beyond the foggy dew
The whats perhapses and might be
Confound a pensive view
Suppositions all be told
And stated as a fact
Angry people red and blue
Say now’s the time to act
Destruction real and threatening
When will the day appear
That none are dying over there
And no one’s dying here
The past several weeks has been un-nerving with the Russians pounding the living daylights out of Ukraine. I must say that Mr. Zelensky presents a sense of calm that I would have trouble displaying if I found myself wearing his shoes. He kind of reminds me of Winston Churchill, when he calmly stated all the places that the English would fight the Germans. “We shall fight them on the beaches, etc.”
There is another war going on right now. It is the war of disinformation. Someone is always trying to paint a picture for us of what is true, and what is false. It is very difficult to divide the good from the bad at times. It always depends on where our sympathies lay as to where exactly we draw the line, between good and evil. There are the times that we know full well that we are wrong, or our party is wrong, but we just shake our heads and smile. Let me give you an example from our country’s own past. The Boston Tea Party. We were taught in school by a smiling teacher how patriots boarded ships and dumped tea into Boston harbor to teach those nasty British a lesson. What I see when I look at the event, is a bunch of thieves breaking and entering. Next the scoundrels steal what belongs to someone else, vandalize the merchandise, and end up blaming it all on another race. But that is ok because the ends justified the means. Those scoundrels were our scoundrels, so we smile at the injustice.
The dictionary that I was using, Definitions from the Oxford Languages, says that a spectre is a ghost, or something widely feared as an unpleasant or dangerous occurrence. Everyone everywhere is warning us of absolutely every possible outcome from minute-to-minute newscasts. When I get to feeling overwhelmed, I try to help relieve some of the suffering in any issue that touches my heart, (aid for refugees in this crisis) and I remember the words that Jesus said when He taught us how to pray. “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven. Blessings of peace to you all, Elliot.
