Due to extremely low water levels October proved to be a tough month to fish on the Shenandoah River and local lakes. If you did get on the water, fish were easy to find but it was a challenge getting them to bite due to the crystal-clear water.
November is a great month for outdoorsmen in our area. Hunting season is in full swing and if we can get some rain, fishing will improve. Water temperatures will continue to fall which triggers fish to want to eat. At my last check water temperatures were around 60 degrees. With that being said, fish will be aggressive to reaction lures, spinnerbaits, crankbaits and chatter baits. Due to low water levels and clear water fish will spook easily, so you’ll want to make longer casts.
As the water temperatures continue to cool mid-month, slow your reaction lure presentation and consider tying on a jerk bait. Bass can’t resist a jerk bait this time of year. As we get toward the end of the month fish will begin to transition back to their wintering holes, that being the deepest part of the section of river you’re fishing.
As water temperatures continue to drop, change your presentation to jigs and chunks, tubes, ned rigs, and always keep a jerk bait tied on. Fish jigs around heavy cover, and wood and rock piles along drop offs.
If we get two or three days of sunny warm weather, bass will pull up into the shallows looking for baitfish. So, keep your eyes open, if there is bait around, fish are nearby. Good luck!
As we celebrate Thanksgiving, may we all be reminded of all we should be thankful for. Even with all that’s going on around the world we have so much to be thankful for.
Psalm 100 tells God’s people to be glad, joyful and thankful for he made us and we are his. We are his people, the sheep of his pasture(vs 1-3). For in the worst of times we can remember Christ’s love and sacrifice for us.
This Thanksgiving lets show Gods love by helping those around us that need it most. Today, let’s make the choice to have an attitude of thankfulness.
