26TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
Sunday, September 22, 2024 at 1 pm
The celebration opens at 1 pm with a reception centering around a KALEIDOSCOPE OF COOKIES, 26 different kinds of cookies—one for each year that the Museum has served the community. Come enjoy one or sample them all!!! At 2 pm.
GREG OWEN, local WW II historian, will discuss his most recent research into the German Prisoners of War Camp at Timberville, VA. The camp located about three miles west of Timberville was in place for two summers—three months in 1944 and five months in 1945—primarily to supply much needed labor for farmers and businesses in the area after so many of the local workforce left to join the military services.
Greg was one of the first speakers to participant in the Museum Lecture Series which began in 2009. His talk drew over 100 people. Since then, Greg has continued to research the labor camps and frequently travels to Europe to visit WW II sites. His talk on Sun. Sept. 22 celebrating our 26th anniversary will highlight his latest in-depth research.
