We will be concentrating on two set of Scriptures in this set.
Psalms 119:105 – NKJV – Your word is a lamp to my feet
And a light to my path.
Psalms 119:130 – NKJV – The entrance of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple.
Imagine yourself back in the days of old, walking along a dark path through a wooded area, trying to get back home. This would be a time before there was electricity, flashlights, or any of the modern gadgets that we use today. Back then, you would have to use a lamp or a lantern to light up your way so that you could see where you are going. The lamp would light up the way in front of you so that you could navigate your way in area’s that, if you attempted to walk through in the dark, could cause you to run into stumbling blocks. Traveling through that wooded area without that lamp could make your journey very dangerous. You could run into trees, stumble over unseen rocks or perhaps step on a poisonous snake as well as facing other obstacles that could cause you to be seriously injured.
Thank God today we have electricity, flashlights and GPS’s to help us find our way, but the analogy given in the Bible is very clear and makes a great point. Psalms 119:105 says that the Word is a “lamp” to our feet and a “light” to our path. Why is that? So often, we as human beings get hit with a lot of challenges in life that can cause us to lose our way. We certainly seem to be living in a culture that has lost its way. There is much confusion today concerning nearly every aspect of life as we know it from marriage to who we are as individuals to why we are here on this planet, and the list could go on. Our “feet”, along the paths of life get muddy and we don’t know which way to turn or look to for help. However, there is always one source that we can turn to that is always reliable and can help give us some solid direction in life and that is God’s eternal written Word, the Bible. You see, God’s Word can give direction and “light” up the path of life that’s ahead of you. That’s why it is described as a “lamp”, and a “light” to the paths we walk through. It is also why it says in Psalms 119:130 that the “entrance” of His Word give “light” and understanding to the simple. The Amplified version of the Bible says it like this:
The entrance and unfolding of Your words give light; their unfolding gives understanding (discernment and comprehension) to the simple.
When we begin to partake of Gods Word and we allow it to penetrate our hearts, it give us understanding and discernment. The Scriptures are the Wisdom of God and can make one wise, as the Apostle Paul spoke in edifying Timothy.
2 Timothy 3:14-15 – NKJV – But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
