Here we are, already into the last unofficial month of summer. It sure has been a hot and humid one. With all the rain events we have had, the Shenandoah River has been blown out at times and local lakes are full and dirty. I will have to say, with these conditions, it is my favorite time to be on the water. And I will also say that I have not been able to spend very much time on the water due to a bad hip. Hopefully, by the time you read September’s paper, I will be fixed and ready to hit the water.
If the rains continue and the water stays dirty, I would fish the river, and I would fish shallow—six feet or less. Reaction lures would be the choice: spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, and crankbaits. Bass tend to feed more in murky water, and the good part is, you can catch bass all day in these conditions. If the rains stop coming in August, that will change things. Early morning and late evening will be the best times to be on the water. Reaction lures will continue to produce, but the top water bite should be on fire. Like I said, I have not been able to spend much time on the water, but the reports I’m getting say there are plenty of bass being caught on the Shenandoah River.
I would like to congratulate Bethany Baldwin on her personal best catch – a 41/2-pound largemouth bass she caught on her birthday. Way to go, lady! Fishing is not just for men—the ladies can catch them too!
Be safe on the water and watch out for each other.
Do you ever wonder what Heaven is like? Our Heavenly Father is there. Our Savior, Jesus, is there (Acts 1: 10-11). Heaven is a prepared place (John14: 1-4). Our citizenship is there (Phil. 3:20-21). Our rewards are there (Matt. 5:12). Our saved loved ones and friends are there (I Thess 4: 13-17). Read and study these verses. There may be a decision you need to make about where you want to spend eternity. The only way to heaven is through Jesus Christ. Are you going there?
God Bless,
Mike
