Mother nature had other plans for anglers during the first part of February. Winter weather made accessing the river and local lakes less than desirable. Anglers should be excited we have flipped the calendar. Thank goodness it’s March!
Weather in March can be unpredictable in the Valley. Early snow storms are not uncommon with spring rains to follow. Then there’s the wind. You can expect windy days in March. And then occasionally mild days will give a taste of spring.
Water temperatures were below 40 degrees all winter but should be on the rebound in March. With climbing water temperatures fish will become more active and start to feed, and probably take any offering you throw at them.
I would start the month throwing square billed crankbaits or spinner baits in the 5–8-foot range. Remember bass will still be near their wintering holes. The rattletrap is also a good option when trying to locate bass. Fancast the entire area you are fishing. Another good choice would be the jerkbait. Bass can’t resist a slow-moving jerkbait.
Once you locate bass with the above lures, slowdown and pick them apart with a jig with a chunk trailer, or a tube and/or a grub on a lead head hook.
I would start the day off fishing the middle of the river near shallower flats. As the sun warms these shallow areas, bass will move in to feed. You can’t beat a spinnerbait in these areas.
If heavy spring rains come and the river gets up and muddy, bass will be right up against the banks. You’ll want to target these fish with a ½ ounce spinnerbait with Colorado blades.
Take time to get to the water this month. You just might catch the bass of a lifetime! That’s what keeps us going back. Good luck!!
The Bible tells us that Jesus prayed often and alone. As followers of Jesus, prayer should be the number one priority in our life. It’s that connection between us and God. God desires nothing more than Christians coming to him in prayer.
So, I would like to encourage you to pray more. Pray for the church, pray for those that don’t know Jesus, and pray for yourself. Set time aside daily to spend alone with God.
No matter how confusing life can be at times, we don’t have to face life alone. The spirit and the son are praying for you today. Our Lords encouragement to us is clear, always pray and don’t give up.
Philippians 4:6 Don’t worry about anything; instead pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.
God Bless you all!
Mike
