December is normally a month of kids making wishes and trying to find a gift for someone. But for 3 scouting units December meant helping their community to have holiday spirit, helping those in need and honoring our veterans. Cub Scouts from Pack 1, Boy Scouts from Troop 1 and Troop 124 participated in various events in their community starting Dec 2nd through Dec 16th before winter break started on Dec 20th.
The Boy Scouts helped at Timberville’s Annual Winterfest on Dec 2nd and Dec 3rd by assisting vendors and running the firepit for guests to have free roasted marshmallows.
Between Dec 5-14th, Cub Scouts from Pack 1 rang bells for the Salvation Army Red Kettle at Walmart in Timberville for 6 nights. Boy Scouts from Troop 124 also rang bells for 3 nights.
On Dec 16th, all 3 units attended Wreaths Across America at Woodbine Cemetery. Flags were led by Troop 1, followed by Troop 124 and Pack 1 in the Color Guard lineup. After the program, the scouts participated in laying wreaths on veterans’ graves to remember and honor them during this season. Girl Scouts from Troop 713 participated as well.
Northern Rockingham County Scouts continue to support and help the community in their needs. Thank you scouts.
