Hello friends,
I’m writing this column on the last day of 2023. Another year is in the books – all its joys and sorrows, its triumphs and struggles. I hope you have some time to reflect on the events of the past twelve months as well as time to make plans for a wonderful new year.
If you know me, you know that one of my favorite things to do is escape into the pages of a good book. This past year, my Goodreads reading challenge was 130 books. I’m happy to report that I have read 134 this year! I’m setting next year’s challenge to 135 – hoping to be closer to 140 by year’s end.
Along with some of you, I’m eagerly awaiting the year’s first snowfall. Yesterday while typing Bev Garber’s Historic News, I read several notes that mentioned temperatures in Timberville that reached 15 to 20 degrees below zero! I don’t think I have ever experienced weather of that kind! Folks back then must have been made of heartier stuff than I – some young people ice skated on the frozen surface of the river below the Timberville bridge during those cold nights. Someone also mentioned in the notes that “the stiff north wind” made skating a challenge. I can imagine it did!
You may have noticed that the paper looks a little different this month. We have added four more pages for a total of 40. Also, all pages are now in color! Your continued support and the support of our business sponsors make our paper possible. We are grateful for you and the encouragement you give throughout the year.
I hope 2024 brings blessings to you and your family!
Until next month, stay warm, stay safe, and read lots of books!
Tammy
