On Sun., February 16, about 45 people visited the Museum to hear Dr. Verne Leininger, a longtime member of Linville Creek Church of the Brethren, speak on the church’s relationship with the freed black population in the Broadway area following the Civil War. He pointed out the leadership role played by the Church in welcoming blacks to services and its unique role in providing burial space within the walls of its cemetery. For those who wish to visit, the cemetery is open to the public daily.
This was a part of the Museum’s Lecture Series which continues in April 13 with a talk by Dr. Don Hindman on the proposed Shenandoah Rail Trail from Broadway to Front Royal.
