We are Sam and Kim Wilkins and we are retired full time RVers in search of 70 degree weather. Our home is now a 42-foot fifth wheel.
We sold our home and most of our belongings in order to see what this great United States has to offer by way of beautiful scenery. Along the way we have met some of the nicest people.
We celebrated with our youngest granddaughter, Penelope, for her 4th birthday. Sam has always made smaller children’s picnic tables for our grandkids once they are old enough to enjoy them and Penelope is no exception. Grandchildren are such a blessing and it makes me happy to announce that Penelope is going to be a big sister. Grandchild #11 is due in the Spring.
Our first of 3 family reunions was with Sam’s mothers family, Foltz, in Broadway at his cousin’s house, Paul and his wife Jenny Folz. We had a good turnout and, as always, the food was delicious. Paul & Jenny run an organization called Breaking Free which is Equine Therapy for local veterans and first responders. Check them out online or on Facebook.
The Wilkins reunion was at Lost River State Park and it was well attended and had some very good food (I got a new recipe). This was Sam’s father’s family and he has only one uncle left of that generation. We received a downpour but, thankfully, we were under a shelter.
We left Lost River on the 17th and are currently in Flatwoods WV attending my father’s family reunion in Shock WV, the Brady Reunion. Not as well attended as in past years, only 20 attendees but we still had great food and enjoyed going through photo albums of past reunions. We started this reunion in 1992 so there were lots to look at and talk about.
While here, a former co-worker saw my Facebook post and decided to drive over an hour for a visit. Lynn and I hadn’t seen each other in over 20 years but have been FB friends for quite some time. We chatted for a couple of hours and were able to get caught up on each other’s lives.
Taking time out of our busy lives is so important at this stage of life and we’ve been so very blessed to have the ability and time to do just that (birthday party/reunions/visits). Family and friends are worth taking time for so make the effort while they are still here. Now we are heading to the New England states and more beautiful sites that the United States has to offer, more on that in the next article. Blessings till next time,
