Dear Neighbors,
I celebrated the fall equinox with a large pumpkin spice latte. What better way to usher in the season of wood fires, vegetable soup, and heavy cardigans! Now, the next thing I have to figure out is where to put my porch full of plants! I collect growing things over the summer, and they fit well on the back deck and on the porch. But when the weather changes and I need to think about finding spaces for them to live inside, space suddenly becomes an issue. Our house faces west, and the garage blocks any southern exposure, so my “good light” windows are at a premium.
The pumpkins have been harvested and are decorating the front yard. I’m wondering if I can convince Rambling Randy to cut down the corn stalks and tie them together into some sort of fall decoration?
We ended up with a solid two and a half inches of rain from Ian. The goldfish pond is well filled now and ready for winter. It looks like some of the tomato plants have resurrected and might offer a few more tomatoes—if the frost doesn’t get them first. And speaking of frost, we made our first wood stove fire of the season last week. I can certainly get used to reading by the fire again. My goal is to cut down on extra activities this fall and winter and concentrate on reading, writing, lesson planning, and publishing the Chronicle. We’ll see how that goes!
