The Shenandoah Valley Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa International met at Eastern Mennonite University on November 16, 2021, for a panel discussion on Technical Edits to the Virginia Social Studies Standards of Learning.
Panelists Beau Dickenson, Social Studies supervisor Rockingham County Public Schools; Holly Means, Social Studies teacher at Mountain View HS in Shenandoah County; Kirk Moyers, Social Studies coordinator for Harrisonburg City Schools; and Dr. Paul Yoder, Director of Graduate Teacher Education and Assistant professor of Education at Eastern Mennonite University presented great information on how the edits came about and how they are being implemented in public schools. education students from BC and EMU; teachers from Shenandoah County, Rockingham County, Page County and Harrisonburg City; PDK officers, and Educators Rising (formerly Future Teachers of America) members from Shenandoah County. The next meeting of the Shenandoah Valley PDK will be held on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at 6:30 pm at Blue Ridge Community College (snow date March 22) with a panel of superintendents from the Valley.
