Real Life Lassie
For those of you who watch Reels, On Patrol Live (Live PD) this may not be news to you. To me, it proves everything I believe about dogs being angels sent to us when we need them.
In Louisville, Kentucky on January 7, 2026, a 3-year-old boy was missing. Police were conducting an intense search and were looking everywhere for the boy. Officer Josh Thompson had patrolled the neighborhood for more than two years and was helping the search for the boy.
Officer Thompson states that he was knocking on the front door of a house in the neighborhood when a “stray dog” approached him and started barking at him. When there was no response to his knocking on the front door, Officer Thompson turned to the barking dog and said, “Okay, show me. Where is he? Find him, Boy. Show me.” The dog took off for the back yard. As he followed the dog Officer Thompson thought that the boy was somewhere in the back yard. When the dog alerted him, Office Thompson had sent out a call to those officers in the vicinity to come to the house to help him search. One of his fellow officers joined him as he headed for the back yard with the stray leading him barking, encouraging yips as he led them to the back yard.

At this point, Officer Thompson saw that the back door was open, and he reasoned to himself that a 3-year-old boy who was cold would head for the inside of the house to get warm.
Real-Life-Lassie was telling him something else. He was barking at the SUV parked in the back yard. Thompson’s fellow officer, Officer Storyh, followed “Lassie” to the SUV and there in the front seat was the missing 3-year-old boy. Officer Thompson’s “Daddy Hormones” kicked in and he coached the boy into unlocking and opening the door to the SUV. The boy threw himself into Officer Thompson’s arms and held on tight.
At this point, everyone was celebrating, including the dog- jumping, barking, and spinning!
After this moment, Officer Thompson has not seen that stray “Lassie” again. He states that he has been patrolling this neighborhood for over two years and has never seen this stray before and has not seen “him” since.
That doesn’t surprise me a bit. I have said and continue to say that dogs are angels that God sends us when we need them. I truly believe this an hope you do, too.
