Spring is here and music is in the air! This Mother’s Day weekend, Chordially Yours invites the community to gather, listen, and celebrate with a concert that promises both nostalgia and delight.
On May 9th and 10th, the ensemble will present The Wonderful World of Broadway, a lively and heartfelt program featuring songs from favorites like Wicked, Into the Woods, Seussical (with a nod to Green Eggs and Ham), and more. Audience members are encouraged to tap their toes—and even sing along. It’s the perfect way to treat Mom…or yourself.
For those who have attended a Chordially Yours performance before, you know this is no ordinary choir. With 35 dedicated singers, the group blends not only voices, but passion and precision. Each performance reflects careful attention to technique, diction, balance, color, and blend—details that transform a simple concert into something truly memorable.
But perhaps what makes the group most special is the sense of connection behind the music. Choir members come from all walks of life—teachers and students, friends and coworkers—many sharing a common thread through director Scott Zane Smith, whether as former high school students or through his work as a music professor at James Madison University. Those shared experiences create a bond that audiences can feel in every note.
And the excitement doesn’t stop with this spring’s performances. Looking ahead, Chordially Yours has set its sights on an extraordinary adventure: a trip to Austria in June 2027.
The choir plans to perform in Salzburg and Vienna, while also taking in the rich musical history of the region. For Smith, the journey is a long-held dream, and for the choir, it’s an opportunity of a lifetime. In the coming months, the group will host fundraising events and work to establish scholarships, ensuring that every member who wishes to participate has the chance to go.
As always, Chordially Yours is welcoming new voices into the fold. Those interested in auditioning are encouraged to reach out to Scott Zane Smith at: szanes (at) aol.com.
For now, though, the focus is on Mother’s Day weekend—a time to gather, celebrate, and enjoy the simple pleasure of music shared among friends and neighbors. After all, in a town like ours, it’s moments like these that make the sweetest memories.
