The key lock mechanism is an amazing invention and has been incorporated into everything from automobiles to nuclear facilities. Imagine a world where keys would not be needed because everyone was honest. How much simpler life would be and how much lighter our pockets would be as well.
Most every building has its array of keys for exterior doors, interior rooms, storage closets, and even paper towel dispensers. Fortunately, life is simplified with master keys that are designed to open multiple locks. Such arrangements reduce the number of individual keys needed but even with such masters, it seems some additional keys are still necessary for rogue mechanisms not rekeyed to the master.
I have found that the Bible is a master key to life. Instead of requiring numerous different explanations for various aspects of the world, this one universal divine revelation fits all of life’s locks. Let’s look at a few areas of truth that can be opened and illuminated with this ancient yet eternally relevant book.
For starters, the Bible answers the origin question: where did we come from? We are clearly told that we are not soulless products of random chance operating over billions of years. Rather, we are unique creations of an all-knowing and all-powerful God who made us in His own image. We not only have eternal souls, but also capacities to learn, grow, love, be loved, think, and create.
Using the Bible’s key to open the foyer of creation leads us into a whole building of other rooms that can then be accessed. We understand where the complexity of even the simplest lifeforms originated as well as the grandest schemes of the solar system and universe. It explains the scientifically unexplainable truths of music and beauty.
Geology is also unlocked through the Bible’s pages. Genesis 6-9 describes how the earth was completely covered with water thus revealing how marine fossils ended up on the peak of Mt. Everest. It also helps us understand how hundreds of layers of sediment were laid down over several months and then folded while still soft before hardening into rock. Rocks don’t bend; they break. In addition, this worldwide cataclysmic event explains how we ended up with billions of dead things buried in rock layers all over the earth. Other attempts to describe the fossils paleontologists dig up all leave locked doors of contradictions.
The Bible key also opens the door of explanation for the earth’s 7,000 different languages. Linguists tell us that there is no clear pathway of how all these evolved but rather seem to have “exploded” about the same time. Genesis 11 describes how, when, and even why that explosion took place.
Another room the Bible key fits is that of archaeology. As artifacts, skeletons, and cultures are dug out of the dirt, they all align with the Bible’s record. It’s amazing how many theories have been rewritten to correspond with God’s Word following archaeological discoveries.
The mysteries of history also begin to make sense as we view human nature from a Biblical viewpoint. Wars have occurred because humans are basically sinful. As such we lie, cheat, steal, and kill until something changes our hearts. Even external laws, while they may suppress wicked behavior, are powerless to eliminate the rebellion, sin, and selfishness within every human being.
The Bible key unlocks the chambers of relationships, morality, government, philosophy, justice, life, and ultimately death. Universities were first established by Christians to use the Bible’s universal master key to open every aspect of truth rather than to repudiate God. There are many other rooms for which the Bible’s key is also the perfect fit.
