The Band programs at JFHMS and BHS are collectively known as “the Broadway Bands”, with the two programs having a symbiotic relationship that benefits both groups in many ways. Older kids help the middle school members, while they strive to rise up and be a part of the high school program. The directors from both schools reach out to one another frequently, and the inventories are fluid with instruments being used in whichever Band room they are needed the most. The Bands share not only instruments and students, but also share the support of some pretty amazing Band parents. When a student joins one of the Broadway Bands, their parents automatically become members of the Broadway Band Boosters. The most important job for a Band Booster is also the only actual requirement – a pretty easy one to fulfill – Band Boosters are the Band’s biggest fans. Beyond that, parents can be involved in as much Booster activity as they wish; many hands do make lighter work, and great friendships are formed.
The Broadway Band Boosters are a 501C3 non-profit organization that acts as a support network for all things Band in grades 6-12. That support involves feeding large groups of kids before an event, fitting or hemming performance clothing, building/painting props, repairing/welding equipment carts, keeping inventory of supplies, seeking donations, stealth shopping for sales, picking up and storing purchased/donated items, towing equipment trailers, and of course chaperoning (and cheering :o).
The Band Boosters also sponsor fundraisers and offer opportunities for students to participate, motivating them to advocate for their own programs by creating a contest that sparked 19 Band members to put in 187 volunteer hours in the first six months of 2025. Band Booster funds cover contest fees, end of year awards, and special projects like refurbishing the Marching Band’s equipment trailer and providing consumable items such as reeds, for students in need. We are grateful for the generous support of local businesses as sponsors for the 2025-2026 school year. They will be included on the Broadway Band T-shirt, and on the new wrap on the Marching Band Trailer, as well as being featured on our social media accounts.
