Until cooler months arrive, bass will continue to be in their summertime pattern. For most of the month of June we had clear, low, warm, water conditions, except for the few times that storms in the area would cloud the water. That is the best time to be on the water. Bass will feed more often in cloudy water.
What to expect during August? As I said, bass will be in a summer pattern. The best time to be on the water is early morning, late evening, or on rainy cloudy days. Due to the warm water temperatures you’ll want to spend time around moving water such as rapids and current breaks. Fish gather around these areas because of the higher oxygen levels. Target these areas with small crankbaits, spinnerbaits, or use a Senko to catch a lot of fish.
If you are fishing the calmer sections of the river or one of the local lakes, spend time fishing areas where grass is present. In addition to providing cover, grass gives off oxygen. The depth of the water will determine which lures to use. In shallow grassy areas use topwater lures such as buzz baits, poppers or frogs. For deeper water around grass use spinnerbaits, rattletraps and chatter baits. These will most likely put a few bass in the boat.
July was a hot month, and August will likely be hot as well. If you’re out in the hot weather, stay safe by drinking plenty of water and use sunscreen. And if it’s just too hot, do as I do, stay indoors.
Do you ever think of what heaven is like? Our Heavenly Father is there. Our Savior Jesus is there (Acts 1:10,11). Heaven is a prepared place (John 14:1-4). Our citizenship is there (Phil. 3: 20,21). Our rewards are there (Matt. 5:12). Our saved loved ones and friends are there (I Thess. 4:13-17). Read and study these verses. There may be a decision you need to make about where you want to spend eternity.
