On March 23, Timberview Crossing resident, Nellie Ward, celebrated a milestone! She turned 107 years young! She certainly does not look her age! Born in 1919, she lived in Fort Valley, until moving in with her daughter, Pat Ward, in Woodstock. A beloved resident, Nellie has lived at Timberview Crossing for the past 2 years.
The staff compiled a book of history to celebrate her- a look back at what was happening in the world when Nellie was born. Eggs were 68 cents a dozen, bread was 12 cents, gasoline was 17 cents a gallon. Woodrow Wilson was President, Al Jolson’s song, My Mammy, was top of the music charts! The annual salary was $1,330! You could purchase a house for $5,000. What changes Nellie has seen in over a century!
A lovely table was set for the celebration. Nellie arrived, wearing a tiara and banner, all residents in attendance. The sheet cake was adorned with 11 candles, and Nellie managed to blow them all out in almost one breath!
Along with all the accolades, and celebration, the thing that appeared to please Miss Nellie the most, was holding baby Knoxlyn Plaugher, adorable daughter of employees Kayla Ramey and David Plaugher.
I’m sure birthday cards would still be welcomed! Mail to Miss Nellie Ward, c/o Timberview Crossing, 351 New Market Rd, Timberville VA 22853.
Thank you to Anita’s Custom Florals for one of the beautiful bouquets for Miss Nellie!
We at The Chimney Rock Chronicle wish Miss Nellie a wonderful birthday!
