Fall is here, the weather is turning cooler, and the days are getting shorter. Nature is closing ranks and settling down for the cold weather to come. This is my favorite time of the year. Life seems to slow down a bit and my cats seem to be happy to have more time on my lap. (By the way, most of the CRC is put together with me in the recliner and a cat on either side. I’ve had to become a contortionist to be able to use the computer keyboard with so much feline help!)

Students are settling into school as well—routines are set, expectations established, and schedules memorized. For many years I pushed back against routines and rituals, but I’m finding life goes smoother when I create patterns for my days.
We are looking forward to seeing many of you at the “Meet the CRC Writers” event being hosted at the Plains District Memorial Museum on Sunday, October 12 at 2:00 pm. Meet some of our columnists, learn how we operate, and hear our story! You’ll also have time to ask questions! And the museum is serving light refreshments.
I don’t know about you, but my garden is a tangle of morning glories and crabgrass. I suppose it’s time to clear it off for fall. I’ve never tried winter gardening, but I’ve heard carrots, broccoli, and Brussels sprouts can grow well in our climate. Perhaps one day…
I hope you enjoy your October! Spend some time enjoying the things that only happen in autumn!
Until next month, stay safe, have fun, and be curious!
Tammy
