Three local retired educators represented District G of the Virginia Retired Teachers Association (VRTA) at the recent VRTA Spring Delegate Assembly in Richmond, VA. District G covers Rockingham County, Shenandoah County, Bath County, Highland County and Page Counties. Karen Whetzel, a member and past president of the Shenandoah County RTA, as well as past president of District G, is president of Virginia Retired Teachers Association and presided over the Executive Committee meeting, the Board of Directors meeting, and the Delegate Assembly. Bea Morris serves as the VRTA as well as the District G Legislative Chairperson.
JoAnn Racey is a member and past president of the Shenandoah County Retired Teachers Association, and Secretary of District G RTA. Racey represented District G President Linda Dinsmore, who could not attend, at the Board of Directors meeting.
Highlights of the VRTA meeting included a lunch talk by Dr. Bob Holsworth, Benefits update by Jim DuBrueler of Creekside Insurance, a presentation by the Virginia Retirement System (with VRTA honoring retiree Jeanne Chenault, who has helped present VRS information the group for many years), and a talk by Tom Allen, author and editor of the VEA Journal.
