Have you ever heard the phrase “Too many cooks in the kitchen”? Well, we have a bit of that happening at the Off Broadway Players. In our next production we have a couple of ladies who both want to be the next MasterChef.
Isobel Lomax and Dolly Biddle are two “mature” cable-access cooking show hostesses who have hated each other for thirty years. Ever since Larry Biddle dated one and married the other the feud has been going on. When circumstances put them together on a TV show called The Kitchen Witches, the insults are flung harder than the food! Dolly’s long-suffering TV-producer son, Stephen, tries to keep them on track, but as long as Dolly’s dressing room is one inch closer to the set than Isobel’s, it’s a losing battle, and the show becomes a ratings smash as Dolly and Isobel top both Martha Stewart and Jerry Springer!
Off Broadway Players has an all-star cast line up, featuring theatre veterans Lori Greene Smilowitz, Susan Comfort, Seth Simmers and the legendary Ron Smith. Ian Cherry is leading the crew as Stage Manager and Elke Smacker has created the most realistic stage food I have ever seen. Also assisting backstage is Olga Sasjaworsky. We have seasoned technicians in the booth with Chris Runion taking on sound and Addison Cherry running lights. It has been an honor working with every one of them as their director.
We are also very proud of our show sponsor the Fraternal order of Eagles #4150 in Harrisonburg. Check them out on Facebook. It is a wonderful social club where you can relax, have something yummy to eat, hear good music and make great friends.
Show dates are May 16th, 17th, 25th and 26th at 7pm. Matinee performances are May 18th and May 27th at 3pm. Performances are held at J Frank Hillyard Middle School in Broadway. More information can be found at www.offbroadwayplayersva.org.
See you at the theatre
