While many of us are familiar with the Vietnam Veterans Memorial or monuments from World War II, fewer permanent tributes exist specifically for the conflicts in Afghanistan (2001–2021) and the Gulf War (1990–1991). The Gold Star Tribute Wall seeks to change that by bringing recognition and visibility to those who served — and died — in these more recent wars.
The Gold Stars Tribute Wall is coming to Broadway from September 12 – 14 and will be on display at Broadway High School.
Unlike a static monument, the Tribute Wall allows people who may never get the chance to visit national cemeteries or distant military memorials to pay their respects close to home.
The Afghanistan and Gulf War conflicts, though separated by time and geopolitical circumstances, share common threads: desert terrain, complex political goals, and the enduring burden placed on military families. Soldiers who served in these wars often returned home with visible and invisible wounds — or didn’t return at all. The Tribute Wall helps ensure that their sacrifices are never forgotten in the shuffle of political discourse or the passage of time.
The Gold Stars Tribute Wall is not just a memorial but a call to action — a reminder that honoring the fallen also means supporting the living.
