A SHOWCASE FOR ANTIQUE CARS
On Wednesday October 22, Plains District Memorial Museum hosted the largest tour group in its history—75 members of the VINTAGE MOTOR CAR COMPANY OF AMERICA (VMCCA) and at least 40 antique cars. Terry Spitzer of Timberville. a museum volunteer who is also a member of the VMCCA, organized the Wed activities as part of a tour of the area planned by the Club’s Mid- Atlantic Region.
Terry wrote the following article
The VMCCA had the pleasure of visiting the Plains District Museum on Wed. Oct 22. The Vintage Motor Car Company of America is a club that is made up of owners of Classic Antique Cars with its major purpose being to hold regional tours of local areas highlighting special points of interest. It also designs tours for different types of cars, for example- pre-war cars and muscle cars. These tours are put together by local members of each Region. VMCCA has approximately 4000 members nationally.

The Mid Atlantic District included Plains District Museum as one of the stops on their Valley Tour. The 75 club members who attended enjoyed coffee and doughnuts , a power point on the history of the Museum, talks by Helen Smith, Curator of the Museum, and Bev Garber, Timberville Town Historian.

As coordinator of Wednesday’s tour, Terry continues, everyone thoroughly enjoyed the museum part of the tour. Some comments were: “It’s the best small-town museum they had ever attended. Another comment was that we need to video the remarks by Bev Garber before the information is lost. Again, thanks to Helen Smith for coordinating this event.
Those of us who volunteer at the Museum were excited to host this group. We would encourage other organizations to schedule a special visit to the Museum either by calling 540-896-7900 or contacting Board Chair Mike Wean at weanwaterworks@gmail.com.
