Happy June, friends!
I’ve always wondered why midsummer is celebrated in June. After all, summer doesn’t even arrive until June 21. A little research cleared it up. The word “midsummer” doesn’t mean the middle of summer. It comes from the Old English word, midsumor, which means “around the summer solstice.” Makes senses now! What did we do without Wikipedia? ☺
As I write this, we have six and a half days of school left, and then, sweet summer vacation! I’m a compulsive list maker, so several pages in my planner are dedicated to the things I’d like to do this summer. We’re kicking things off with our annual family beach trip to Chincoteague. I’d also like to finish book two in my Cozy Mystery series, take a few online classes, and try to keep my garden plants alive. Of course, I also have some chores listed—clean the pantry, organize my office, and de-clutter the laundry room. I also want to pull out my Cricuit dye-cut machine and do some craft projects. For various reasons I have decided not to retire from teaching this year. The bottom line seems to be my brain isn’t ready to slow down (spicy brain syndrome!). Leisurely days in the recliner don’t have a lot of appeal for me…yet!
I hope you enjoy these warmer days. I know we’ll all be complaining about the heat, come August! I’m so glad we live in an area where we can experience all the seasons. I enjoy the colors, sounds, smells, and textures of every month in the year (some more than others).
Have a wonderful June, and I’ll talk to you in July!
