We are Sam and Kim Wilkins, and we are retired full time RVers in search of 70-degree weather. Our home is now a 42-foot fifth wheel.
We sold our home and most of our belongings in order to see what this great United States has to offer by way of beautiful scenery. Along the way we have met some of the nicest people.
It is hard to believe that November is already here and in one month we will be snowbirds again and fly south for the winter. We have been so very busy visiting family and friends, family reunions, church activities and helping out around the campground. There are still things I have planned and things yet to plan. Time seems to be moving so fast, I hope and pray there is still time to do the things I love.
Our FL friends, Linda and Galand Snowden, came to the campground to spend the day with us. It was so very nice to be able to share a meal with them, catch up with them and see what’s going on in their lives and also to share with each other how much we look forward to spending time with them in FL.
We have scheduled time to volunteer at the Charlotte NC processing center with Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Ministry on the trip to FL. We are having workshops at our church, BBC Broadway Baptist Church, getting ready for our packing party this month. I just got back from Gretna VA after helping my friend, Tammy Fielder, prepare for her packing party in which she packed 1046 boxes. Tammy is still bravely fighting liver cancer so please continue to lift her up in your prayers.
It is definitely the time of year for one of my favorite non-profit organizations and volunteering. This is such a labor of love for the both of us and has been since 1993. If anyone out there would be interested in becoming involved, please visit www.samaritanspurse.org to learn more about it. This organization is so wonderful and helps so many people, both here in the US and abroad, there are so many ways you can help out.
Sam and I attended a Grandparents Celebration at Cornerstone Christian School attended by our grandson, Levi. How special it was to be treated to a musical presentation and very good food. There was a photo booth, and we took a picture with Levi, but we haven’t received it yet. I promise to post it in a later issue. Also, Levi was baptized last month at BBC. He and his brother, Matthew, are the third generation to be baptized in this baptistry. What a blessing.
We just spent a weekend at the hunting camp that Sam Sr. and Sam Jr. have been members for 21 years. Now the next generation, Matthew, will be joining since he is old enough. We take the weekend to do the cleanup, and when I say we I mean my DIL, Katie, and myself. It’s quite an undertaking but it’s worth having such a place to come to and enjoy a beautiful WV fall day together. We prepared BBQed chicken and brought lots of food to share. We had 13 people coming and going so it was a busy time but such fun as well. After spending the night there is a big breakfast in the morning.
The HALT Foundation sponsored the showing of the documentary “Rescued Hearts” at Regal Cinema in Harrisonburg last month. This is a film that tells many stories of the healing that horses can bring to those suffering from mental issues such as PTSD, anxiety or depression as well as team work sessions. As I am preparing this article the film hasn’t yet been shown so I’ll be sure and let you know how successful it was and maybe have some success stories to share.
Our fearless leader and editor, Tammy Cullers, had a “Meet The Writers” gathering at the Timberville VA museum. What fun it was to get to know some of my fellow writers and hear what got them started in this fun adventure and learn what motivates them every month to share their lives and experiences with you. Thanks Tammy!
My sister, Dawn, continues to progress well. The tumor in her brain is still very slow growing, and the latest MRI showed that her current treatment continues to work. Since there is the slightest growth, however, they will be adding a treatment that will hopefully work just as good or maybe even better. We are very grateful that she is still with us and pray her time here is lengthened. Thank you for your continued prayers.
There continue to be so many prayer concerns. We know prayer works! When you share your prayer concerns with me, I take them seriously, I add them to my prayer book and lift them up. I covet your prayers for all those I have shared with you. I don’t know what I would do without you, I am so very grateful for each and every one of you.
Blessings till next time.
Kim
