We are Sam and Kim Wilkins and we are retired full time RVers in search of 70-degree weather. Our home is now a 42-foot fifth wheel.
We sold our home and most of our belongings in order to see what this great United States has to offer by way of beautiful scenery. Along the way we have met some of the nicest people.
Once we enjoyed a Christmas get together with the family and friends, we said our goodbyes we left West Virginia as it was just starting to spit some ugly weather. We stayed in snow showers all the way to North Carolina and then it turned to rain. We only had one slight mishap on our trip when a tractor trailer caught our ladder on the side of our camper with his rearview. The ladder had a quarter size dent in it but it didn’t bend it and his mirror was cracked but still usable. We felt fortunate as it could have been worse.
We always stay at a campground in South Carolina, just across the state line and yet only 10 or 15 minutes away from Charlotte NC. We very much enjoyed volunteering for three days in the OCC Processing Center. We saw some friends we made last year, Art and Sue from TN, they were back in Charlotte where we were preparing boxes to go to Columbia. The Charlotte PC is much bigger than the one we volunteered at in Baltimore MD on the Friday after Thanksgiving where the boxes were being prepared to go to the Ukraine.
We were supposed to be volunteering with a friend, Tammy Fielder from Gretna VA, but she wasn’t there. When we spoke on the phone later, she told me her plans had to change as her 4 year long battle with liver cancer was coming to an end as she was no longer eligible for chemo and she was placed in Hospice. The facility where she was staying was in Dobson NC, just 93 miles away, so the day before we were supposed to leave SC I drove up for a visit. What a time we had reminiscing about her passion for OCC and her packing parties and the many hours we spent on the phone. My friend went to be with the Lord on December 19th just eight days after our visit. She was a Christian through and through and I am comforted knowing she is in Heaven with her Daddy and our Heavenly Father. I will miss my friend and look forward to seeing her again one day. Please be in prayer for her family at this time.
We made it to Keystone Heights RV Resort safe and sound and have been enjoying this campground. This is our first year here but it’s our sixth winter as snowbirds. We’ve been having cool nights, but the days warm up quite nicely. Sam still has a bad cough and congestion, and we are hoping and praying this warmer weather will help heal.
Wishing everyone health and happiness during the Christmas and New Year season. May all your wishes and prayers be answered. Enjoy time with family and friends. Tomorrow is not promised so make the most of every day.
Blessings till next time,
Kim
