These photos speak volumes about the conditions of WNC as well as the biblical object lesson. As the children’s song goes, “the wise man built his house upon a rock and the rain came tumbling down…and the house on the rock stood firm.” A rail worker, Cory Doss, shared the photos belonging to Ansel Ringler in October of last year. The post went viral, showing 44k shares currently. Cory wrote,
“[I don’t know] that some people realize how much water came through NC and Erwin and through East TN. This is the ‘House on the Rock’. It sits right beside the CSX main line. The bottom picture shows how high it sits with normal water levels; the top picture was after the storm was over. ‘And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.’ Matthew 7:25 ESV”

The relief organization Mr. Ringler, who took the pictures, would like to share is local to him – his grandpa helped put it together – Rebuilding Hollers. Mr. Ringler explains, “They have donated tons of building materials to help folks rebuild homes, and have worked with the high school where the students learn carpentry while helping to build folks homes who lost one during the flood.”
