With Christopher Lively and Pat McNally
When on a junque and antique expedition, sometimes, the best finds are found close to home! Pat and Christopher made a side trip to the new upscale thrift store in Broadway, The Mercantile on Main Street. Small but mighty, the two sisters who run it, have an ever-changing inventory.
An unusual and very bright orange purse caught Pat’s eye, which turned out to be a jewelry travel case, in perfect condition! Purses were the thing that day apparently, because she scored a corduroy Longaberger purse, and a vintage boho hippie leather fringe cross body bag!
Along with new items, there are plenty of antique and vintage goodies to rummage through. An embossed Fire King loaf pan also came home with her. In addition, a neat little child’s cup was discovered, made by Forbes Silver Co of Meriden, Conn, circa 1894/98.
Another day, at J&B, an antique lidded butter dish, Czech Block & Co, pre-WWII was a great find. Always adding to her teacup collection, Pat found an orphan teacup there also, too pretty to pass up! It’s a William Lowe and Longston ring handle English china, circa 1920s. No doubt, she has a saucer that will fit the teacup perfectly. If not, the search continues!
Christopher made another of his regular visits to Rolling Hills Antique Mall in Harrisonburg. He’s on a first name basis with everyone there, including the resident cat! The shop owner alerted him to a very cool boot jack that had just arrived. Of course, Christopher had to run down and bring it home!
They both found a few other cool items but will save that for next month! More shops to visit! Stay tuned!
